really enjoy this fantasy series and I look
forward to the second half of the series coming
out over the next eighteen months or so. I
highly, highly recommend it for those who want to
try more fantasy but are a bit leery of the
genre. I think it's a good one to dip your
toes into. I also recommend it to more
established fans of the genre because the
world-building, characters and potting are
excellent." | |

"It's definitely a plot-driven
work. Royce and Hadrian take what they think will
be an easy job--steal a special sword on the eve
of a duel--for high pay. Instead, they're framed
for the king's murder. I would go on and give more
details of the plot, but anything I write might
give away some of the fun plot twists. I never
knew what would happen next, which was
awesome." | |

Can't
wait for the next three! By James R.
Barnes (Atlanta, Ga USA) - See all my reviews I just
recently came across Mr. Sullivan's books, and am very
glad I did. I loved all three, and very much look
forward to the next three...I was happy find something a
little more like the stuff that got me into reading when
I was young, but still had a great story to be
told. Even though they are all now among my top
favorites, I think that Nyphron Rising was probably the
best of the three (but not by much). I have, and
certainly will again in the future, recommend to others.

Michael Sullivan
Does It Again For the third time in as many books he has hooked
me and pulled me in with a genre I don't traditionally
read. I think the reason for this is he's simply a good
story teller. His characters are diverse and
interesting, his story clever and unpredictable - while
not outrageous. Sullivan could likely write in any genre
he cared to...I enjoyed
this third installment in his series and I will, without
a doubt, look forward to the next book. What is perhaps
most impressive to me about this book, and the two that
came before, is that each one stands on its own. Reading
all of the books certainly gives the reader a richer
experience, but it is not essential. Having said that, read them all.
They are worth the time. |

Best of the Series
so Far, by Far I enjoyed The Crown
Conspiracy and Avempartha (the first two books in this
series of six) when I read them. Both were good books
with interesting characters and a plot that flowed well.
So when I picked up Nyphron Rising, I expected something
similar, a good book with an interesting plot and some
intrigue. Having just finished Nyphron though, I think
it's a head above where I remember either of the other
two being. It has all of the elements of Mr. Sullivan's
original work, including old favorites Royce and
Hadrian, Princess Arista, adventure, intrigue, and
action. But even with those elements, it feels like it
has more to it. The pages really flew...I truly can't wait to get to the
next volume of Riyria, this series is starting to get
very good. |

Delivers Once again, Michael J.
Sullivan delivers. I believe these books are getting
better each time. Where Avempartha took a little while
to get off the ground, this started with intrigue and
never let up...In the fantasy genre, waiting 6 months for
the next installation of a series is remarkably soon,
but in this case it will be a frustrating wait. The last
two chapters of this book made me want to rush out and
immediately get the next volume.

Another terrific adventure
novel from Michael Sullivan! Though technically the
third novel is a six nivel set, this novel, like the two
that came before, absolutely stand up on its
own.A wonderful story,
with intriguing new heroes and dastardly new villians,
"Nyphron Rising" delivers on the promise firmly
established in "The Crown Conspiracy" and
"Avempartha."More of
this universe emerges - from grand battles to save
kingdoms, to the hierarchy of local thief guilds -
Sullivan tells his story well. I enjoyed this thoroughly and anxiously look
forward to Book 4. |

Another strong novel in the
Riyria Revelations series...Once again it's an exciting tale, only this time
around you really get to see where this series is
starting to head, as the main plot slowly unfolds. I
enjoyed learning more about Hadrian and Royce's past.
Each of the characters developed more in an emotional
way, especially Arista who achieved a greater level of
maturity.Bit by bit the
pieces are being unveiled, but it's never too much nor
too little, just the fine line between that allows you
to get excited for the next installment in the series
(especially when left on a cliffhanger), and I'm
certainly looking forward to it. It's a
middle-of-the-road book in the series, but it doesn't
feel like one. |

I just read the first chapter of
Nyphron Rising by Michael Sullivan. As I really enjoyed
The Crown Conspiracy and absolutely loved Avempartha,
the first and second books in the Riyria Revelations, I
am anxiously awaiting the third book. As I had hoped,
this book looks to be equally wonderful. It is clear
from the sample, first chapter that Sullivan’s main
characters are now fully developed, but remain complex
and intriguing. The chapter pulls you directly into the
plot which is already in full swing. The style is
concise and flowing at the same time; a perfect blend
that allows for the tension of the scene while exploring
the main character’s underlying emotions. This is a
promising start to what I’m sure will be another great
book from Michael Sullivan. |

Another absolutely riveting
installment in The Riyira Revelations series! We are now
halfway through the entire series, and I cannot wait to

did not disappoint. There was suspense, humor, action,
treachery, and even a tiny bit of love thrown
in. |

I think the real genius of this
edition is what I call the "slow burn" of Arista's
character. Many people have poo-pooed Arista because she
has twice been the "girl trapped in the tower" waiting
for a man to rescue her. But part of that was setting
her up so she could go through a metamorphis as she
starts to come into her
own. |

Once again,

while to get off the ground, this started with intrigue
and never let up.

I
was completely absorbed by by this book. A fairly simple
story is told in a very compelling way. It's so
refreshing to read a fantasy novel without all the
gloom-and-doom, that takes time for humor. This series
of books does just that. It has easy-to-like characters,
satisfying "in-book" plots, and a compelling
over-reaching series-long plot. There is also a good
amount of information provided and hinted at to the
reader about the world's past. I love that in epic
fantasy. I like an author who writes out his world's
entire history and mythology before writing his books,
so that the reader can become steeped in the
world. |

I
enjoyed the humor in the book, the characters sarcasm
and jokes with each other. You maybe asking how a poor,
innocent farm girl would know to ask for them here in
this city, in which they are not welcome. Well,
Esrahaddon is back and guiding people around again. The
cover of this book is a very good depiction of a scene
in the book. If you look closely you may see the beast
in which is the center of why Thrace has come looking
for Royce and Hadrian. But unknown to Thrace there is
much, much more going on here than to her visible eye.
You are going to have to read the book to see where it
will lead you. |

If you don't read much epic

would be a great series to start with because of the

written. |

The
books tell a complete story in themselves so could be
read alone. But, to get the full epic feel of the books
and what the series is truely driving at I would read
them in order from book one, The Crown Conspiracy. I had
thoughts on the characters and of the under laying epic
story. Some of these have been answered and some
suspicion has been added. |

Get more into the depth of the conspiracy

book I had thought it was going one direction, but was
very pleased when it went a different direction. I had
thought in the beginning the book was moving a little
slow, but now realize I was getting a lot of character
details which I needed to come to my speculations. These
details help me in trying to figure out the bigger
picture with the lingering thoughts I have in the end of
the book. In all these details are worth it and needed
in the end. |

The story was
just complex enough to provide a lot of tension without
being overly complex. There were enough characters,
fleshed out well enough, but not too many. It was just a
well balanced, fun read. OK, I said it before, but it is
worth repeating. This isn't a novel that is heavy on
philosophy, but an entertaining read to relax with.

Avempartha sees our
"heroes" from The Crown Conspiracy back in action and in
as fine a form as ever. The opening scenes in the novel,
the set-up, is a fantastic intro for readers who read
the first book and an excellent and highly entertaining
way to recap a bit of back story for new readers. It is
a quick little conversation between Royce and Hadrian
and a third-party and while it manages to encapsulate
parts of The Crown Conspiracy it does an even better job
at managing to illuminate the moral complexities of the
roguish heroes. |

First let me
say that I loved the first book: The Crown Conspiracy.
It was a fast pace thrill ride with memorable characters
and a twisty plot that kept me guessing up to the very
end. It had come highly recommnded by a friend and it
did not disappoint. So, I had pretty high expectations
for Avempartha (Second book), but in the back of my head
I had a nagging feeling because so often I've been
disappointed with the second of anything (book or
movie). Michael Sullivan did in Avempartha what I
thought was not possible and surpassed an already
exceptional book. |

One thing Michael did in Avempartha that I am
really in awe of was creating a new, dispicable villain.
I'm not talking about the beast - sure that's scary and

Avempartha is
every bit as enjoyable as its predecessor was, and is in
some respects even better. The primary reason for this
is the extra dose of worldbuilding (and to a lesser
extent political intrigue) Mr. Sullivan has included in
this tale....Mr. Sullivan continues to impress. In Royce
and Hadrian he has created some of the best characters
the genre has seen in some time, and in
Avempartha he shows that he knows what
to do with them. |

A series
that actually excites me again Avempartha epitomizes everything I
love about fantasy. Heroes that are respectable but
amusing. A richly detailed world experiencing its own
version of the Dark Ages. Enough magic and fantastical

Second Book Avempartha is an excellent novel in

It appears the
M.J. Sullivan is following in the footsteps of Robin

favorite thing about it so far is the character

literally, as defined by Merriam-Webster's as
"fascinated by or devoted to") I was like a kid at
Christmas waiting on my copy of Avempartha. From the
last page of Crown to the first page of Avempartha, I
missed my new friends Royce and Hadrian. Michael
Sullivan's Riyria Revelations series is a rare and
wonderful treat; an artistic vision. The novels are
inventive, captivating and well-written. A great
adventure filled with passion, humor and heroism await
you! |

Like this
book's predecessor, this was a very enjoyable read...The
two storylines intersect in a predictable fashion, but
the characterization carries the book very well, and
makes you care what happens in this straightforward

I am really enjoying this
series!!! I said this
about The Crown Conspiracy, but it's true...it's very
light and fun, but the characters are very well drawn
out (I liked the confirmation I got on the theories I
had while reading the first book). I enjoyed the
deepening of the themes/plot that were introduced in the
first book, and definitely liked that there wasn't a
maddening cliffhanger. Can't wait to read the next installment!

I also thought
including a local play in the called "The Crown
Conspiracy" that was based upon the events in the first
book in the series was a clever idea. It makes the world
a little more real. I mean, if something huge happened
like the events in TCC, you'd certainly expect there to
be tales and plays. Nice little addition that just added
to the believability of the world.

Good pacing and
good action throughout this second episode of the Riyria
Revelations series. A trimmed down cast of characters
with a few guest stars rounded out the adventure. I
missed Myron, my favorite character from The Crown
Conspiracy. The most character development occurred
among the guest stars, particularly Thrace and Theron of
Dhalgren. Hadrian and Esrahaddon revealed more of
themselves. I learned more about Royce, but Arista faded
to two dimensions. |

I love Royce and
Hadrian. They are so much fun. The best part is you
think you know them and then they do something so out of
their character that you love them even more. They are
truly kind hearted even if they try to not be. This
story was so great. There wasnt as much action as in the
first one, but it served its purpose and made the
theives more human i think or elvish?? There are still
more secrets i can tell and i cant wait for the third.
Thank you Michael what a fun book.

The book has
two primary story lines. The first is a rather
straight-forward "save the village" tale. A young woman
hires Our Heroes to help her father retrieve the special
weapon with which to protect her village from the
Terrible Monster.
The other storyline is a
political/mystery story. The Church is looking for the
long lost heir to the Empire, and has been shown to be
ruthless in its objectives. |

The sequel,
Avempartha, far surpasses the first book on many levels.
Character development is more improved upon and they all
have more of a depth to them. You learn more about their
background history, as well as the history of Elan. This
information is all told in such a way that it doesn't
interrupt the storyline. The underlying bigger picture
of the plot is starting to become more apparent. I found
Avempartha a much more gripping read that kept me
turning the pages. I think it's up there with some
of the best fantasy I've read. |

It appears that
M.J. Sullivan is following in the footsteps of Robin
Hobb and producing a series of books that form a
coherent continuum, with the entire storyline determined
in advance. I love that approach, especially since every
book is also self contained and entertaining. My
favorite thing about it so far is the character
development, where we are continually fed little
tit-bits of information, enough to keep one's interest
but never enough to satisfy the curiosity.
Swashbuckling, broad sword swishing, cloak and dagger
lurking, mythical creatures and a good conspiracy theory
all rolled into one. Can't wait for the next book!ad.

Excellent
follow up to The Crown Conspiracy. Though follow up may
not be the right word, since The Crown Conspiracy was

Another awesome
read! Our kind-hearted thieves are back! As the story
unfolds, we gain more insight into the lead characters'
lives through subtle hints and some obvious revelations.
We learn more about the origins of Hadrian's amazing
sword skills. We begin to understand why Royce is such a
good thief and why he can open locks easily. A picture
begins to form for us of the conflict and the intrigues
played between the church and Esrahaddon. Some of my
questions from the first book were answered, others
still remain, and a few new ones come up. So, needless

There are some
scenes in this book that I found particularly
descriptive, and Mr. Sullivan has set himself apart as a
great image writer. Frequently writers get so
caught up in the story that they forget the importance
that setting plays in a book. Mr. Sullivan has
great descriptive elements of his book — particularly
the passage on the cave. I almost felt as if I was

descriptive — and beautiful. |

The characters are fun, and
easy to get involved with — and for the first book in a
series, I was surprised at how easily this book could
stand on its own — separate from the series if the
reader wanted it to. One of my biggest complaints
about series is it is hard to get involved, and if you
miss any of the saga — you end up having to start all
over. This book didn't fall into this trap.
However, Mr. Sullivan did manage to create a story
that, when developed throughout the remainder of the
series — has the potential to be a fun, fantasy
story. |

Great
read!
The Celtic part of me wants to proclaim from the
hill tops that the Celts always have been the world's
best storytellers. But I don't have to shout it because
Michael Sullivan has demonstrated it with his great
read, The Crown Conspiracy. On top of telling a great
story, he has done what most fantasy writers have
neither the skill nor the integrity to do - he has
conceived a six book series in which each book stands
alone as a complete story. My hat is totally off to
Michael Sullivan. |

that happened to me when I started reading The
Crown Conspiracy was that I realized that I
couldn't put it down. I tried prying it off my fingers
and shaking my hands around like I'd just touched a hot
pan but all to no avail. This book is that good. Even
more amazingly, Mr. Sullivan manages to sustain this
effect throughout the entire novel. The characters are
likeable, interesting, and well developed, and the
setting is wonderfully fleshed out, complete with a
detailed history, political rivalries, varied
landscapes, and everything else that readers of fantasy
have come to expect. And Mr. Sullivan weaves the action
into this story so skillfully that I had to keep
reminding myself that this is his first

Quick, slightly
humorous fantasy novel. I haven't really read books of
this genre much and I was a little apprehensive.
Ultimately it was really enjoyable. The two protagonists
were interesting and their relationship can be humorous.
I enjoyed the ending, although I thought that it was a
little too "feel good" given that the main characters
were thieves. |

An
enjoyable enough book, but nothing that wowed me. It was
generally well-paced, but it also wasn't a book that I
couldn't put down...I think one of my complaints was
that there wasn't really a lot of character development

depth in characters |

Quick, enjoyable
fantasy/adventure The
story was well paced and didn't drag like some fantasy.
The world was believable without being mired down in
details. It was laid out much like a movie - I could
clearly picture this being filmable and entertaining.
From the introduction that introduces a secondary
character (as a means of introducing the lead
characters) to the witty dialog. The dialog made me
laugh without being too obnoxious, and it was easy to
tell apart the different characters by the way they
spoke. There was also a steady progression of character
development, but it was still a quick, fun read for me.

series and I will meet these characters in future books.
Myron is one of my favorite characters. I like the idea
of someone who's lived his memorable life within the
walls of one building being brave enough to go on an
adventure. I look forward to reading the next in this
series soon. |

This is the
first in a planned six book series titled The Rivria
Revelations. Each book will be written, as this one was,
to be a standalone. You will not need to read previous
books to enjoy them. However, let me warn you, if you
read this one you will find yourself impatiently waiting
on the next. It is that good. |

A fast paced and
riveting fantasy A thief yes, a traitor, no. "The Crown
Conspiracy" tell of Royce & Hadrian, thieves and
mercenaries for hire. Making a good life doing what they
do, they soon find themselves the accused of murdering
their king. Dragged into a conspiracy they want no part
of, they have to find someway to clear their names and

The Crown
Conspiracy was my first book classified as medieval
fantasy and I am truly glad it was. It was a fast paced
novel, that left me guessing from the very beginning.
The descriptions were fantastic and the characters were
well developed. I particularly liked Royce, one of the
thieves, with a great sense of humor, and Myron a monk,
who hasn't seen the world since he was 4. I found this
book to be a unique perspective and I look forward to
reading more. |

Fun fantasy from a
promising new author Overall, I found this to be an enjoyable
light fantasy story, a fun read. It stands alone as a
single story, but there are enough loose ends that I'm
interested to see where things go in following
books. In short, this is a very solid book for a
new author, and I would suggest it for anyone in the
mood to try something new in the area of light, engaging
fantasy. |

The characters
feel fully-developed and have depth that makes you want
to get to know them. The world is complex enough to be
interesting, but the details are parceled out as they
become relevant, rather than provided as an overwhelming
mass. The plot has enough twists and turns that you
don't see all of them coming, while retaining enough
classic fantasy elements to feel familiar. |

A fun fantasy with
twists and great characters This book is fun end to end. The two main
characters are funny, touching, and seem they feel like
old friends. It is unlike many fantasy novels where
standard cliques are rampent. There is no orphan,
magical weapon, ancient evil...just two guys in the
wrong place at the wrong time. |

Great Book!
Exciting New Author! The plot was swift but not swift enough that
I found myself lost or parts over looked. Sullivan had a
real skill in keeping the plot going and knowing just
when to throw that curve ball in the plot or at what
time it was perfect to reveal a certain crucial part of
the plot to the readers! |

Great reading for
all ages "The
Crown Conspiracy" was a page turning delight. Each
character was intricately constructed so that an air of
realism surrounded them. The twists and turns of the
novel freed it from predictability and that in itself is
refreshing these days. Sullivan is a master story teller
that uses beautiful language yet is easy to
understand. |

reminded of the first Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings

embarking on a great adventure. And if this book is any
indication, the series will be quite a journey! The
characters are so real. You feel immediately upon being

A nice
surprise I'm not
normally a reader of fantasy type books. There were many
places that rather than stopping to figure out how

out of a situation, I just continued to plow through to

Excellent novel,
even for non-fantasy fans I will admit, that over the last few years I
have grown away from the fantasy genre, so this book sat
in my "to be read" pile a bit longer than it should
have. However once I opened it up, I was thrilled with
the story. What we have here is a very well thought out
tale of intrigue, regicide, battles over the
throne, conspiracy, and two thieves thrown into the mix
keep the story line moving at a rapid pace.

Fast and
fun It started
off fast, kept up a brisk pace, was full of surprises,

This is a great
book! I love fantasy, and I love series and I read a
lot, and this was a wonderful and refreshing change.
There's no prophesy, no young boy destined to slay some
terrible evil, no quest for a magical artifact, no
sword-wielding female characters, no dragons or demons
and the characters don't speak in archaic or oddly
dramatic language in an attempt to sound medieval-like.

An excellent
adventure novel As far as adventure novels go, this one is among
the most exciting and intriguing I've read. The pages
practically turn themselves as a motley cast of
characters journeys and cascades through Melengar,
gradually discovering more twists which impact the
course of their journey, while the author slowly reveals
secrets that keep the reader guessing and building
tension to a satisfying climax and ending. |
